Committing to good causes
Our various volunteering programmes are a big part of working at Openreach. In fact, in the year ending 31 March 2018 more than 13,000 of our people took part in more than 22,000 different activities. It’s one of the ways we show our energy, passion and enthusiasm for contributing to the communities we work with. And we’re proud of our people’s commitment to making a difference.
We encourage all of our people to get involved in volunteering and fundraising. There are lots of opportunities so there’s something to suit everyone – from simply donating to a local food bank, to supporting a local hospice, or enrolling as a special constable or school governor.
SSAFA, the armed forces charity and our partner
We work closely with SSAFA, the UK’s oldest national tri-service a national military charity. Since 1885 they’ve provided lifelong support to our armed Forces and their families. Every year they help more than 65,000 people across the UK, ensuring that their needs are met in a timely and appropriate way. Like us, SSAFA plays a key role in connecting communities. Our people support SSAFA in various ways, from volunteering their time to organising fundraising events. By the end of 2017, we’ll have raised over £120,000 for SSAFA since our partnership began back in 2015.
Every year around 20,000 servicemen and women leave the services and return to civilian life. We’re proud to say that we’ve recruited over 2,000 service leavers since 2010.
