Openreach’s Marc Garfoot, 30, is excited about the future after joining Openreach as a trainee engineer in July 2017.
Moving from an IT background, Marc is now playing an important part in the work to make faster broadband speeds available to hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses across Lincolnshire.
He joined Openreach as he fancied “something a bit more hands on”. Marc says: “I knew Openreach was a huge company with great career progression. I wanted to challenge myself with something completely new, and although I was nervous applying for the role, the training and recruitment process was well organised and everything went smoothly with no issues.
“I was surprised to find you don’t always have to have specific experience to be an engineer. It’s more about finding the right person for the job and then completing the training. This included how to work safely, how to use specific equipment, as well as an introduction to the technology that Openreach uses.
“I’m really enjoying my time at Openreach and I really do hope it’s a job for life.”
