Making a difference - improving people's prospects

We serve every community in the country. That’s a lot of opportunities to give something back. And one way we do that is by helping people find long-term employment.

Adult Work Placement – helping people to get back into work

Our adult work placement scheme is aimed at people who’ve been out of work for a while. We’ve designed it to help them build their confidence through customer experience and working with others.

How does it work?

Run by Openreach volunteers, people can work alongside our operational teams and learn what employers want from them. Taking part in the programme also gives them more visibility with prospective employers. And they can add the fact that they’ve been part of an accredited programme with an industry-recognised company to their CVs.

If you’re interested in taking part please contact Wayne Chorley.

Transition Force – doing our bit for people who’ve served their country

People leaving our armed forces can sometimes struggle to find work in the civilian sector. At Openreach we understand how important it is that British industry doesn’t lose this huge pool of talent. So in May 2011 we came up with the idea for Transition Force to improve the prospects of those leaving the armed forces and ease their transition back to civilian life.

How does it work?

We developed a network of people, including veterans and corporate mentors, to help service personnel and their families into civilian employment. Our people give their time for free through a volunteering programme. They provide mentoring through the Openreach buddy scheme and help set up events – like “Work Inspiration” which introduces service personnel to the world of work and opportunities available to them at Openreach.

If you’re interested in taking part please contact Wayne Chorley.
