We’re one of the world's biggest communications companies. It's our job to look after the network that connects tens of millions of homes and businesses across the UK. We do this on behalf of communications providers who deliver phone, internet, data and TV services to the nation. And we need the best people to help us do that.
Meet Megan and Arrondeep – two of our trainee engineers
Life as an engineer
As one of our engineers you could be responsible for building our network, or installing and maintaining broadband for our customers – covering residential customers as well as businesses on behalf of a variety of communication providers.
This isn’t an office job so you won’t be tied to one location. Instead you’ll be on the road, in your van and out in the fresh air. You’ll be visiting lots of different places and working in all kinds of buildings including our telephone exchanges – our central hubs for connecting customers. You might find yourself working at a street cabinet, up a telegraph pole or in the customers’ premises. The type of work you’ll be carrying out will be physical, for example you might be required to climb a telegraph pole and work at height.
This is a customer focused role, so quite a lot of the work is done alone, but you’re never really alone as you’ll be interacting with customers, getting together with your team and there’s always people for support at the end of the phone – from your manager and team mates to dedicated teams there to help.

Our engineers come from all walks of life. We’re looking for people with an ability to connect with the public, and a willingness to get stuck in.
Don’t be put off from applying because you haven’t done something similar before. We have world class training to equip you with the new skills you’ll need and we'll provide you with everything you need to do the job - tools, clothing and a vehicle. If you’re the type of person who likes fixing problems and is passionate about customer service, then we want you to apply.
All we ask of you is that you’re physically fit, have a full driving licence - with no more than six points - and are always willing to go the extra mile for the customer. We don't ask for any formal qualifications but, you'll need a basic level of Maths and English which we will check during the application process along with a colour vision test. Once you’ve passed the interview and assessments, we’ll do a few pre-employment checks before you start.
Our engineers work 37.5 hours a week, that’s usually four or five days between Monday and Saturday, and once you have gained some experience, there’s often opportunities for overtime.
Our network upgrade is one of the biggest and fastest in the world and our Civil Engineering teams are crucial in helping to install the infrastructure that make this possible. Made up of people from a variety of backgrounds, we're looking for people with a wide range of experiences to join us. You will need to enjoy working outdoors, the challenge of a physically demanding role and love being part of a team.
